From Joyce King: The first Planning Commission public meeting on the Land Use Element (Forest, Agriculture, Urban, Rural, Public Lands) was an overflow crowd, with approx 2/3 of the speakers favoring stronger limitations on residential development in forest and ag lands, and supporting greater concentration of next 20 years new housing within current urban boundaries. Opposing 1/3 requested extension of the workshop and relocation to venue closer to So Hum to allow larger turn out of those who want more residential development on forest and ag lands, esp for expansion of rural homestead opportunities The plan must include unambiguous natural resource protections; especially for open space, water resources, water quality, scenic beauty and salmonids", and to link importance of large fragmented parcels of forest and ag lands to health of watersheds and salmon. We have until June 9 to submit HWC's Land Use comment for the Commissioners' pre-hearing information packet. June 11 is an "open forum" and the official hearing of public comments will be on June 18.
